Coastal Birds

Great blue herons, Ardea herodias, can often be seen in the shallows of Netarts Bay.

The Western Gull, Larus occidentalis, is one of the most common shore birds on the Oregon coast.

The jet black plumage, bright red bill, red-rimmed golden eyes, and sharp cries, whistles and yelps of the black oystercatcher Haematopus bachmani cannot be mistaken for any other bird.

Brown Pelicans exist on all coasts of the United States and range to South America.
